One of the biggest advantages of vinyl fencing is how little upkeep it actually needs. But a small amount of regular care goes a long way in keeping it looking its best for decades.

#1 Wash It Regularly
Vinyl can accumulate dirt, mould, and mildew over time, especially in humid climates. A rinse with a garden hose and mild soap a couple of times a year keeps it looking clean and bright. For stubborn stains, a soft brush does the trick.

#2 Check for Mould and Mildew
In damp or shaded areas, mould and mildew can develop on the surface. Catch it early with a mixture of white vinegar and water or a vinyl-safe cleaner before it spreads or stains permanently.

#3 Inspect Posts and Panels Annually
Walk your fence line once a year and check for any panels that have shifted, warped, or come loose from their posts. Vinyl is durable but a hard impact from a lawnmower or storm debris can crack a panel — and it's always cheaper to replace one panel early than to let the damage spread.

#4 Keep the Base Clear
Soil, mulch, and vegetation built up against the base of your fence traps moisture and can stain the lower panels over time. Keep the ground around your posts clear and make sure water drains away from the fence rather than pooling against it.

#5 Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Vinyl is easy to clean but harsh solvents, bleach-based cleaners, or abrasive scrubbers can dull the surface or cause discolouration. Stick to mild soap and water or a product specifically designed for vinyl fencing.

#6 Check Gates and Hardware
Hinges, latches, and gate hardware take more wear than the fence itself. Lubricate hinges annually and check that latches are closing properly — a sagging gate puts stress on the surrounding panels if left unaddressed.
